Happy Birthday to Me!

One year older and wiser too? I'm not so sure about that. I find my birthdays to be kind of depressing as I use them as a time to measure where I am at in life. It didn't help that this year my birthday was spent attending a funeral. But one nice thing that happened that day was, Noah insisted on getting me a present and walked through all the checkout stands at the Walmart in Le Grande to find me a pack of Cinnamon gum. I thought it was a very sweet gesture. I had to keep reminding myself of this sweet moment when a couple hours later he was a complete terror. Ever since he turned 4 he has been really testing his limits at times wearing on my patience. But that is another story for another time.

So, needless to say we postponed the celebration of my Birthday this year until we got back home. Here's a picture of my Birthday Cake. I was feeling the need to be creative in the kitchen and spend some time baking so I made it myself this year. A two layer Chocolate Zucchini Cake with Chocolate Butter Frosting. The sprinkles were a nice touch added by Noah and Zoe. Once again we failed to have Birthday Candles on hand.

My creativity didn't end there. You see when we got home from Oregon we had the largest Zucchini I have ever seen in our garden. I so wish I would have gotten a picture of it. I swear it was the size of Zoe's leg. I managed to bake my cake, 2 loaves of Zucchini bread, and made stuffed Zucchini for dinner out of it. I also made some roasted beet hummus, it was pretty tasty, but it was hard to get past the bright pink color....
The kids got me a bottle of perfume for my birthday and I spent some of my birthday money that I got from Dan's parents and Grandparents to get my hair done. I got it cut and colored for a steal of a deal. So, all in all things turned out okay this year.
