Sometimes homework is a bad word in our household. Just the mention of it sets the whining in motion. Noah can get so frustrated that he doesn't want to complete his homework. Zoe just refuses to do her homework. I just want them to cooperate and complete their homework on my schedule. Sometimes homework is just a big hassle. However, at other times they can't wait to do their homework and get frustrated if I am in the middle of something that can't help them right then. So, we are continually searching for a happy medium.
As a result of this constant struggle, I often wonder if Noah is really grasping, or learning like he should. We don't always work well with one another. I have a hard time determining if he doesn't know something, or if he just isn't interested in it, at that moment in time. I worry that he doesn't know his letters or numbers, or that he is terribly behind. But, at the same time know he is a really smart kid in other areas. He is an amazing artist, he can pick out makes and models of cars, and remembers directions like a pro.
Here is a glimpse at one of my proud mommy moments. I think I was busy feeding Jackson and Zoe really wanted to do her homework at that moment. Being the great big brother that he is, he sat down and started helping her with her homework. It was nice to see him being so patient with her. He explained things so nicely and showed her examples of how to write each letter. He also was very encouraging when she would make a mistake and told her to try it again. It was funny to hear him repeat things his Dad and I have told him during his homework sessions.
Together they finished her whole packet. I was so pleased.
He actually does have a grasp on the alphabet and he really does listen to me.
